Le site du projet se trouve \u00e0 70 kilom\u00e8tres au nord-est de la capitale Yaound\u00e9. Le barrage, construit sur la Sanaga, aura une longueur de 1,455 km et le canal d\u2019amen\u00e9e aura une longueur de 3,3 km. Le d\u00e9veloppement, la construction et l\u2019exploitation de cet am\u00e9nagement hydro\u00e9lectrique est sous la responsabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019entreprise camerounaise Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC) d\u00e9tenue \u00e0 40% par EDF. Le co\u00fbt du projet est de 1,2 milliard d\u2019euros. EDF Cameroun et le centre d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie hydraulique d\u2019EDF Hydro assurent l\u2019assistance au ma\u00eetre d\u2019ouvrage NHPC. Environ 3 500 personnes travaillent \u00e0 la construction de cet ouvrage qui, avec ses 420 MW, sera le plus puissant ouvrage hydro\u00e9lectrique du pays. Commenc\u00e9 en 2019, le barrage fournira, une fois mis en service, de l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 \u00e0 un tiers de la population camerounaise.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019entreprise fran\u00e7aise de production et de distribution d\u2019\u00e9nergie EDF souhaite lever plus de 991,6 millions \u20ac (650 milliards de FCFA) pour la construction d\u2019un second barrage hydro\u00e9lectrique construit \u00e0 Kikot, sur le fleuve Sanaga. Ce projet Kikot comprend un barrage et un r\u00e9servoir d\u2019eau, ainsi qu\u2019une centrale hydro\u00e9lectrique, qui sera la plus grande puissance \u00e9lectrique du Cameroun (entre 450 et 550 MW).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La construction du barrage devrait commencer en 2025. La mise en service du projet est pr\u00e9vue en 2029.<\/p>\n<p>En avril 2022 a \u00e9t\u00e9 inaugur\u00e9e la premi\u00e8re centrale hydro\u00e9lectrique priv\u00e9e de moins de 5 MW dans le village de Mbakaou. Ce projet soutenu par le Fons fran\u00e7ais pour l\u2019Environnement mondial (FFEM) contribue \u00e0 ouvrir la voie de la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique dans le pays. Situ\u00e9e dans la r\u00e9gion de l\u2019Adamaoua, cette centrale permet l\u2019approvisionnement en \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 d\u2019origine renouvelable de 40 000 habitants en zone rurale. Ce mod\u00e8le a vocation \u00e0 \u00eatre r\u00e9pliqu\u00e9e et adopt\u00e9e par les d\u00e9veloppeurs camerounais. Ainsi, le Cameroun a lanc\u00e9 un programme de construction de 50 autres minicentrales hydro\u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n<p>Cette strat\u00e9gie, adoss\u00e9e \u00e0 un partenariat public-priv\u00e9, devrait induire une meilleure qualit\u00e9 du service de l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, une r\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts de production ainsi que des \u00e9conomies budg\u00e9taires. De m\u00eame, au plan environnemental et avec l\u2019arr\u00eat des centrales thermiques, la construction et la mise en service de ces ouvrages contribuera au niveau national \u00e0 la lutte contre les changements climatiques, le Cameroun s\u2019\u00e9tant fix\u00e9 comme objectif de r\u00e9duire de 35% les \u00e9missions des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre \u00e0 l\u2019horizon 2030.
